Last But Not Least!

Our Final Bootcamp Project.

Happy First Saturday of the year! Hope my new year's gifts are still safe. Thanks SIDEHUSTLE, It's been a wholesome experience so far and we've all improved together as a team.

We started off having no practical knowledge but now... Suffice to say we're all mini pros in our own rights.

Let's get right into it, shall we? Our final task was to carry out an SEO and content audit on our blog using seoptimer.com and have an SEO score of 90 at the end of the week.

It wasn't much of a hassle...at first, but then the real work began. After analyzing our site, www.financebuddy5.wordpress.com, with seoptimer.com, we got a list of recommendations to work on. My teammates and I each took up a recommendation to improve and make our site more optimized.

This is where the real work began. We've done our fair share of content writing and SEO, but working on SEO auditing was a completely different ballgame. We each had to do maximum research. Every recommendation needed us to understand something, even if it was just the basics. Terms we hadn't even heard of before had to be researched to a basic level of understanding.

Some of the recommendations included:

  • Working on our meta descriptions - This is important to SEO because it lets search engines such as Google know what a particular website or webpage is about.

  • Making our URLs more search engine friendly - URL is an abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator. It is good for SEO ranking, but it can only contribute to this if it is designed in such a way that it benefits the target audience. This can be accomplished by keeping it short and requiring it to contain keywords.

  • Increasing page text context - From research done, content of between 1500 - 3000 words tends to be ranked by a search engine, and this will help with SEO.

  • Adding alt attributes to our images- Alt attributes are brief descriptions of an image used by search engines to understand the content of a page.

  • Creating a YouTube channel for our blog. ( We were advised to add videos as well but weren't able to add one due to some minor setbacks.)

The above listed were but a few recommendations we were given by seoptimer.com, and of course we made sure to follow every (well, almost every) instruction given. That proved to be the right choice because, last we checked, our SEO score had increased.

I'd say we might have surpassed our goal even. What do you think?
